I tried reading HEARTBURN a few years ago and couldn't get into it. I also feel like it's a little dated nowadays and was probably a better read back when it was published.
I need to read Curtis Sittenfeld's new short story collection! I loved her previous one. And everything else she's written (except Romantic Comedy, which feel short for me in terms of the type of writing I know she's capable of. I feel like she "sold out" a little bit with RomCom.)
I liked the New York City setting of Heartburn, but I agree that it probably would’ve been best to read it when all of the references were current! I love Sittenfeld’s writing too, but I actually haven’t read Romantic Comedy yet. It does seem different from her other work, and I’m a little wary of the pandemic angle!
The pandemic part wasn't bad. But overall the book didn't have the searing wit and kin insight into people that i'm used to from her. I think Eligible was a much better "rom com" from her!
I just picked up a copy of Show Don’t Tell for myself for Mother Day! I can’t wait. I also loved I Leave it Up to You! I think I need to listen to Say Nothing not my usual pick up but I’m intrigued.
I hope you love Show Don’t Tell too! And I totally hear you on Say Nothing—I really did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did because it’s so far outside my reading comfort zone. But now I’m recommending it to everyone I know!
I really enjoyed this format of mini reviews!
I’m so happy to hear that! I love writing a mini review.
